LAHORE: A local TV show host, Ayesha Jahanzeb, was reportedly abused and humiliated in public by her husband on Wednesday. Ayesha’s husband, Haris Ali, was arrested by Sarwar Road police after she filed an FIR against him. The police obtained a two-day physical remand of the accused to investigate the case.
In the FIR, she stated that her husband turned rude a few months after their marriage in 2015, but she tolerated this unacceptable behaviour just to keep her marriage intact.
She added that her husband kept on treating her harshly even in front of her kids, adding that a few days back he severely thrashed her, pulling her hair and kicking her. The TV host said the violence left her two young daughters in trauma.
She said that her husband brutally assaulted her at their home’s main entrance, in the presence of neighbors, besides abusing her.
She said that when neighbors tried to rescue her, her husband threatened them with a gun, warning them to stay out of it, saying it was a private matter.
Meanwhile, she said, an electrician Abdul Rehman, and her driver Akthar were able to rescue her. When more neighbors started gathering, her husband left the house, she added.
In an interview with SAMA TV, where she works as a host, she revealed that this was the fourth time her husband had physically assaulted her this year. She explained that she had kept quiet about the issue only for the sake of her children. She disclosed that her husband divorced her recently.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has taken action on the torture incident and sought the report over the matter.
The Chief Minister ordered provision of the best available medical treatment to the wounded anchorperson. “Women are my red line; any sort of torture of working women will not be tolerated,” she said.
