RIYADH: Turkiye and Saudi Arabia have inked a series of agreements encompassing investment, energy, the defence industry, and communications.

The deals were inked after delegation meetings led by the visiting Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Saudi Crown and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Jeddah.

President Erdogan earlier had a meeting with the crown prince behind closed doors at Al Salam Royal Palace, according to news agencies.

The Turkish leader landed in Saudi Arabia on Monday as part of a 3-day Gulf trip to strengthen relations.

On the first leg of his tour, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud and other officials welcomed Erdogan on Jeddah airport.

He is being accompanied by his cabinet members and other turkish officials.

Following the meeting, President Erdogan presented a Pamukkale white Togg to Mohammad Bin Salman. They examined the car in the palace courtyard.

After concluding the tour, President Erdogan returned to his hotel in the Togg, which Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman himself drove.

After Saudi Arabia, Erdogan will visit Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), respectively.

Erdogan stresses importance of Turkiye-Saudi Arabia ties

Addressing a media conference in back in Istanbul before embarking on his Gulf tourage, President Erdogan said the Turkish diplomatic ties with Saudi Arabia were established in 1929.

He added that Ankara wanted to extend the solid foundations of its ties to an even wider area of cooperation.

Being one of the most important states in the region, Saudi Arabia has a special place in sectors such as trade, investments as well as contracting services, he maintained.

Erdogan added that the value of the projects initiated by Turkish contractors in Saudi Arabia in the past twenty years is approximately 25 billion dollars. Ankara would like Turkish firms to play a greater role in the mega projects of Saudi Arabia.
