ANKARA: Türkiye has strongly condemned the killing of a Turkish-American citizen Aysenur Ezgi Eygi by Israeli forces during a protest against illegal Israeli settlements in the town of Beita in the Nablus district of the occupied West Bank.

According to eyewitnesses Israeli soldiers opened live fire on a group of Palestinians taking part in a demonstration condemning the illegal settlements on Mount Sbeih in Beita.

Türkiye has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of Aysenur Ezgi Eygi. Turkish Foreign Ministry in a statement offered condolences to Eygi’s family and prayed for the departed soul.

The ministry strongly condemned “the murder committed by the Netanyahu Government.” “Israel is trying to intimidate everyone who comes to the aid of Palestinians and peacefully struggles against genocide. This policy of violence will not yield results,” the ministry said.

The statement further warned that Israeli authorities responsible for crimes against humanity will be held accountable by international courts.

Fouad Nafaa, director of the Rafidia Hospital, said that Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, was brought at the hospital with a gunshot injury to the head. She succumbed to her wounds despite attempts by medical teams to save her.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken also deplored the death of Aysenur Ezgi Eygi and promised action “as necessary.”

“We deplore this tragic loss,” Blinken said while talking to reporters on a visit to the Dominican Republic, offering his condolences to the family of Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, a US-Turkish dual national. “I have no higher priority than the safety and protection of American citizens wherever they are,” he said.
