ANKARA: Turkiye continues its talks with both Russia and Ukraine to end the ongoing war, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told a trilateral summit between Turkmenistan, Turkiye, and Azerbaijan, “We witnessed, along with the black sea grain deal and prisoners’ exchange, the way to peace can be paved if diplomacy is given an opportunity.” He mentioned Turkish-brokered deals between Russia and Ukraine.

“We continue our talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin in this regard. Hopefully, we will first strike a cease-fire deal and then durable peace in our region.”

Talks to restore regional peace

Tayyip Erdogan, Turkmen leader Serdar Berdimuhamedov, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met on Wednesday in Awaza, the western Turkmen city, to further enhance cooperation between the three Muslim countries in diverse areas, particularly transportation, trade, and energy.

The Turkish President also said the three countries need to launch work on transporting Turkmen natural gas to the Western markets to tap Western markets.

“We are ready to work on transferring energy and electricity from Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan to Turkiye,” Tayyip Erdogan said. “Turkmenistan getting full membership in the Organization of Turkic States will further strengthen the regional group,” he said. Turkmenistan has had observer status in the Organization of Turkic States group since 2021.
