ISLAMABAD: Allama Iqbal Open University’s (AIOU) Department of Urdu successfully concluded a month-long Urdu Language Course designed for its second batch of students from the University of Istanbul.
The certificate distribution ceremony was graced by the presence of Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood, the Vice Chancellor of AIOU, while Mehmet Toyran, the Academic Attaché of the Turkish Embassy in Pakistan, was the chief guest.
Various distinguished guests attended the event, including Prof. Dr. Halil Tokar, Director of Yunus Emre Institute Pakistan, all deans of AIOU, principal officers, faculty members, and Dr. Zahid Majeed, Director of International Collaboration and Exchange.
Turkish Students Highlight their Learning Experience
Turkish students, with pride, introduced themselves in Urdu, highlighting their achievement of learning to read and speak the language proficiently in just one month. They proudly shared their experiences of using Urdu during visits to different places throughout the course, consciously avoiding the use of English.
Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood, the Vice Chancellor, commended the students and their dedicated teachers for their hard work and commitment. He stressed the significance of language and culture, emphasizing that completing this course equips these students to become ambassadors contributing to the strengthening of the relationship between Turkey and Pakistan.
The educational attaché from Turkey expressed gratitude towards the Vice Chancellor and AIOU’s teachers for their role in teaching Urdu to Turkish students.
Prof. Dr. Abdul Aziz Sahir, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, praised the teachers for their efforts in teaching Urdu to Turkish students and highlighted the practical use of Urdu by the Turkish students during their visits to various places, including Islamabad’s Sunday Bazaar, historic sites in Taxila, and cultural landmarks in Lahore.
Dr. Zahid Majeed and Dr. Arshad Mahmood, both faculty members of the Urdu Department, also addressed the gathering. The ceremony concluded with the distribution of certificates to the Turkish students and their teachers by Vice Chancellor AIOU.
