Turkish President Erdogan Meets European Council Chief in India

NEW DELHI: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Sunday met with European Council (EC) President Charles Michel in India.

The closed-door meeting between the two leaders came on the sidelines of the G-20 summit in the capital, New Delhi, Anadolu Agency reported.

Turkiye applied for European Union (EU) membership in 1987 and has been a candidate country since 1999.

Talks for full membership began in October 2005 but have stalled in recent years due to political hurdles erected by some nations.

Turkish FM’s Visit to Kazakhstan

Moreover, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is set to pay an official visit to Kazakhstan on 10-11 September, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said on Sunday.

Fidan and Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Murat Nurtileu will discuss bilateral matters, as well as regional and global developments, the statement said.

Turkiye is the first nation which recognized Kazakhstan. Common historical and cultural relations between Turkiye and Kazakhstan are the basis of the rapidly developing ties.

The high-level strategic cooperation council between the two nations was established in 2012.
