ANKARA: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in his recent address to the 5th General Assembly of the Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum, emphasized Turkey’s concerted efforts to raise global awareness regarding Israel’s actions during the Gaza conflict.

Erdogan highlighted Turkey’s diplomatic endeavors to ensure accountability for what he described as Israel’s human rights violations and war crimes on the international stage.

He stressed the significance of collective diplomatic action among Islamic nations to address Israel’s oppression in Gaza and advocated for joint responses and solidarity.

Furthermore, Erdogan reiterated Turkey’s unwavering support for the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state, recognized worldwide, with Jerusalem as its capital.

He reaffirmed Turkey’s commitment to continue advocating for the realization of this goal until it is achieved.

The Gaza conflict, which escalated following a cross-border attack by Hamas on October 7, resulted in significant casualties and widespread destruction. According to reports, thousands of Palestinians lost their lives, and many more were injured, while a number of Israelis were also killed in the violence. The conflict has led to a humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with a large percentage of the population displaced and facing shortages of essential supplies such as food, water, and medicine. The destruction of infrastructure has further exacerbated the situation, with the United Nations reporting extensive damage to vital facilities.

Despite an interim ruling by the International Court of Justice urging Israel to cease its actions, reports suggest that Israel has continued its operations, drawing criticism from international observers. The ongoing conflict underscores the complex and longstanding tensions in the region, with diplomatic efforts ongoing to address the root causes and seek a resolution to the crisis.
