Turkish Foreign Minister Meets Pakistan’s PM, Discuss Bilateral Trade Relations

ISLAMABAD: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at Prime Minister House in Islamabad on Monday.
During the meeting, the premier emphasized the deep-rooted brotherhood between Pakistan and Turkiye. He expressed contentment with the current positive trajectory of bilateral relations and reiterated Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to enhancing cooperation across various sectors including trade, investment, technology, and defense.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif acknowledged that while the existing bilateral ties are robust, there remains untapped potential, particularly in trade. He emphasized concerted efforts to meet the agreed-upon target of achieving a bilateral trade volume of US$ 5 billion within the next three years. Moreover, he invited Turkish companies to expand their investment footprint in Pakistan, suggesting the possibility of relocating industrial units to Pakistan.
During the meeting, the leaders addressed regional and global developments, with a specific focus on the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended President Erdogan’s unwavering advocacy for a lasting ceasefire in Gaza and reiterated the importance of a two-state solution for achieving lasting peace in the Middle East.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated his invitation to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for an official visit to Pakistan to co-chair the 7th meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council. Both sides reaffirmed their unwavering support for each other on matters of mutual national interest.
