ANKARA: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken have discussed the latest state efforts to secure a truce between Israel and Palestinian group Hamas in a phone call on Wednesday, Turkey’s ministry of foreign affairs spokesperson said.
Spokesperson Oncu Keceli said the call had taken place at the request of Washington, saying the two ministers discussed regional developments during the telephonic conversation. However, he did not provide any further details about the talks.
The development takes place as Blinken said Tuesday that “time is of the essence” to secure a Gaza ceasefire as he wrapped up a Middle East trip with a request for a deal. Blinken, on his ninth regional trip since the 10-month-old Hamas- Israel conflict began, made a brief stop in mediator Qatar but was unable to meet its emir.
End.
