RIYADH: A delegation from the Turkish Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation, and Climate Change, led by Director General of Geographic Information Systems Omar Al-Ain, visited the Shuaiba production system (fourth phase) of the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) in Saudi Arabia.

The purpose of the visit was to gain insights into the state-of-the-art technologies employed by SWCC in desalination processes and to explore potential collaborations for improving water resources.

During the visit, the Turkish delegation received detailed briefings on innovative solutions and modern technologies utilized by SWCC, positioning the corporation as a global leader in desalinated water production. The discussions centered on ways to enhance cooperation and leverage SWCC’s expertise to optimize water resources, reduce energy consumption, and increase operational efficiency through environmentally friendly technologies.

The delegation had the opportunity to witness presentations on cutting-edge desalination technologies, including the magnesium production unit. Of particular note was the use of nanotechnology for magnesium production, incorporating zero salt return technology—a groundbreaking advancement developed by the Water Technologies Innovation Institute and Research Advancement (WTIIRA). This technology, adopted for the first time on a commercial scale globally, underscores the Kingdom’s commitment to pioneering environmental solutions.

As part of the tour, the Turkish officials engaged with presentations highlighting environmentally friendly techniques to reduce gas emissions within the liquid fuel displacement program, employing reverse osmosis techniques. The focus was on Saudi Arabia’s efforts in desalination processes to curtail carbon emissions, lower energy consumption and costs, and enhance overall operational efficiency.

The Turkish Director General of Geographic Information Systems commended Saudi Arabia’s remarkable advancements in the desalination industry, acknowledging the Kingdom’s leadership in this critical domain. The visit served as a platform for discussions aimed at fostering collaboration between the two nations, with Turkey expressing interest in drawing upon Saudi Arabia’s experiences to implement environmentally friendly technologies in its own water resource management.
