Turkey Tells Taliban University Ban for Women ‘Neither Islamic nor Humane’

Islamabad: Turkey on Thursday called Afghanistan’s ban on women studying in universities as “neither Islamic nor humane’ and asked the Central Asian country’s Taliban rulers to nullify their order.

Taliban’s ban, which was announced on Tuesday, has been met with global condemnable. At the time of returning to power after around 20 years, the group had promised to rule with a softer touch.

Foreign Minister of Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu said that the ban was being Islamic nor humane.

He added that Turkey does not consider the decision correct and stated that if it is God’s will then Taliban would reverse their decision.

Cavusoglu in a query asked how women’s education harmed humanity.

Iran displeased at university education ban

Iran, which neighbors Afghanistan, also expressed its dismay and Tehran commented it hoped Afghan officials will resume female university and school education at each and every level.

The Taliban’s higher education ban follows less than 90 days after thousands of women and girls took tests to enter universities. At present, universities are on a winter season break and are scheduled to open in March.

In addition to these events, a majority of teenage girls across Afghanistan are also not allowed to attend secondary schools.
