ANKARA: Turkey’s foreign ministry has taken action by summoning the Danish charge d’affaires and a Dutch envoy in response to the escalating incidents of the Holy Quran desecration carried out by extremist protesters, who are operating under the protection of freedom of expression laws in their respective countries.

The desecration of the Holy Quran, a deeply revered religious text for Muslims, has ignited widespread outrage and calls for action against such acts.

In recent months, anti-Islam extremists have been responsible for desecrating several copies of the Muslim holy book. These actions have triggered condemnation from the Muslim world and demands for Nordic governments, including Denmark and the Netherlands, to outlaw such behavior.

Increasing Incidents of Holy Quran Desecration

The desecrations have been particularly prevalent in Sweden, which is currently seeking Ankara’s approval for its NATO membership. Turkey has been vocally critical of these demonstrations, denouncing them as offensive and disrespectful to religious sentiments.

The move to summon Danish and Dutch diplomats by Turkey’s foreign ministry reflects the growing concern and displeasure over the increasing incidents of the Holy Quran desecration and the lack of appropriate legal measures in place to address these acts, especially when they are carried out under the guise of freedom of expression.

The recent incident that spurred this action occurred when a Dutch far-right activist publicly desecrated a copy of the Holy Quran during a demonstration held outside the Turkish embassy in The Hague. This incident follows a series of the Holy Quran desecration events that have been on the rise in the Nordic region, prompting concerns about the potential consequences for interfaith relations and diplomatic ties.
