ANKARA: President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey has called upon both Israelis and Palestinians to exercise restraint in response to the recent events in Israel.
Speaking at the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) 4th extraordinary congress in Ankara, Erdogan emphasized the importance of avoiding impulsive actions that could further escalate tensions.
Erdogan also reiterated Turkey’s firm stance against any threats to the Al-Aqsa Mosque. These statements were made in the wake of intense rocket fire from Palestinian factions in the Gaza Strip into Israel on Saturday.
Turkey Expresses Concern Over Violence in Middle East
Furthermore, Turkey’s Foreign Ministry expressed deep concern regarding the violence in Israel and Palestine, underscoring the vital need for peace restoration in the region. Turkey also expressed its readiness to contribute to de-escalating the situation and called upon both parties to abandon the use of force, emphasizing the urgency of working towards a lasting peace solution without delay.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Israel is “at war” in response to the ongoing conflict. According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, at least 198 Palestinians have been killed, with 1,600 others injured in Israeli attacks. Meanwhile, Israeli media reported that at least 100 Israelis were killed and over 1,000 others were injured in rocket attacks launched from Gaza.
