DOHA: The foreign ministers of Turkey and Qatar on Wednesday condemned what they termed as “double standards” in the international community’s response to the brutal Israeli military campaign in the besieged Gaza Strip, particularly concerning the killing of Palestinian civilians.
In a joint statement, both foreign ministers condemned the international community’s silence over Israeli brutalities against innocent Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip.
Qatar’s Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, speaking alongside Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, expressed their shared rejection of the unjust treatment of Palestinian civilians by the international community. Al-Thani emphasized, “We reaffirm our complete rejection of responding to the Gaza crisis with double standards when it comes to the human life of Palestinian people. It is not permissible to denounce the killing of civilians in one context and justify it in another.”
The foreign ministers criticized Western governments, including Britain, France, and the United States, for their support of Israel instead of condemning the Israeli brutalities against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
Turkey Denounces US and Europe for Failure to Condemn Gaza Violence
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan particularly called out the United States and European countries for their failure to condemn and prevent the destruction and disaster in Gaza by Israel, describing it as a severe double standard that plays a destabilizing role. He emphasized, “The operation in Gaza should be stopped as soon as possible. Humanitarian corridors should be opened.”
The Gaza conflict, which has resulted in a devastating casualty of innocent Palestinian civilians, particularly children, has raised concerns globally. According to Gaza’s health ministry, over 6,500 innocent Palestinians have been martyred in the ongoing Israeli attacks.
Both Turkey and Qatar have been vocal advocates of the Palestinian cause. The Qatari minister stressed that the key to restoring peace in and around Gaza was to maintain open lines of communication. He also mentioned that Qatar and Turkey would continue to coordinate with each other and regional partners to de-escalate the conflict.
