TUNIS: Tunisia union announced on Monday that they would stage mass protest demonstrations and occupy streets to demonstrate its rejection of next year’s budget. This was stated by the union leader Noureddine Taboubi in a letter to President Kais Saied led-government in the country.
He said that they will not accept this situation and will occupy the streets to defend their choice and the interests of the people.

The country’s 2023 budget expects the fiscal deficit to decline from a forecast of 7.7% this year to 5.2% in the upcoming year, driven by reforms that could pave the grounds for a final agreement with the IMF package.
Tunisia will increase taxes for many professions, including engineers, lawyers, and accountants, from 13% to 19%.

Noureddine Taboubi termed the government as a tax-collecting government and said the finance law increases the trouble of the Tunisian people.
Economy Minister Samir termed 2023 as a very tough year and said the government will cut spending on subsidies mainly food and energy by 26.4 %.
In December, the government increased prices for fuel prices and drinking water.
The country has reached a staff-level deal with the IMF for a 1.9 billion dollars rescue package in exchange for unpopular reforms in the Tunisia union.
