SUEZ: Suez Canal tug boat collided with Hong Kong vessel and crew member is reported missing from the boat on Saturday.

“The wreckage is clear” the port officials said.

The search is on for the missing sailor while the other members of the tug boat has been rescued.

The traffic towards North was affected briefly but vessels moving South were sailed uninterrupted.

Traffic was briefly interrupted that was moving in North but vessels moving in south were not affected, it said.

The collision happened between Hong Kong LPG tanker Chinagas Legend, that started from Singapore on its way to the United States.

The 230-metre vessel was carrying 52,000 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG),

Interruptions happen in the Suez Canal when ships run aground or break down but in March 2021 container ship Ever Given caused a week long stoppage as it changed in a diagonal position instead of being straight.

Billions of dollars worth of shipping delays resulted owing to that stoppage, and Egypt lost $12 million and $15 million a day due to diagonally placed vessel.

Suez Canal is major source of foreign exchange for Egypt which earns $8 billion in transit fees during last year activity.
