ISLAMABAD: A leader of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Noor Wali Mehsud has gone into hiding in Afghanistan after a clear warning from the Pakistan Army that it would no longer tolerate acts of terrorism in Pakistan.
According to sources, the TTP leader has heightened his security after the recent statement by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir, in which he warned Kabul on TTP’s safe havens in Afghanistan.
According to TTP, it has banned all types of meetings with its leader Mufti Noor Wali Mehsud. The militant group’s short statement comes after army chief General Asim Munir during his visit to the Quetta Garison on Friday, issued a stern warning to the interim Taliban government in Afghanistan over the presence of banned TTP across the border, saying recent terrorist attacks would elicit effective response from Pakistan.
“The Armed Forces of Pakistan have serious concerns on the safe havens and liberty of action available to TTP in Afghanistan,” he said adding, “It is expected that the interim Afghan Government would not allow the use of its soil to perpetrate terror against any country, in the real sense and in line with commitments made in Doha Agreement.”
On one side Pakistan’s military has hinted to target the TTP hideouts in Afghanistan, while on the other hand, Afghan Taliban are also fed up with Wali’s involvement in criminal activities and his orders largely viewed as un-Islamic.
Afghan Taliban have threatened TTP of serious consequences for their actions, while the group itself is also facing internal divisions. A large number of TTP members have already parted their ways with the leadership. The situation has deeply worried Mehsud and he is avoiding meetings even with his own associates.
