ISLAMABAD: After a magnitude 7.6 quake struck the Banda Sea, which lies between Indonesia and East Timor, Indonesia issued a tsunami warning.
The tremors of the earthquake, which struck in the early hours of Tuesday, were felt even in faraway Australia.
According to seismologists, the epicenter was 368 km northeast of East Timor while the BMKG seismological agency of Indonesia said the depth of the quake was 95 km below the seabed.
No reports of loss of lives after quake strikes off Indonesia coast
It is not yet known if the earthquake resulted in any injuries or loss of lives.
Dwellers of Darwin, the capital of Australia’s Northern Territory, reported being able to feel the shaking.
The warnings about the tsunami for nearby islands were issued by the BKMC, which called on communities to relocate to higher ground.

No other regional country has issued a tsunami alert.
The Joint Australian Tsunami Warning Center released a statement saying that there was no tsunami threat to the Australian mainland, territories, or islands.
Indonesia is part of a region that is prone to earthquakes. The region is known as the Pacific Ring of Fire.
