Tsunami Alert Issued After Magnitude 7.2 Quake Jolts Vanuatu

ISLAMABAD: An extremely strong magnitude 7.2 earthquake jolted the South Pacific island of Vanuatu, which is located in the so-called Ring of Fire region. After the earthquake, a tsunami alert has been issued.

According to the United States Geological Society the depth of the earthquake of 10km and struck around 30 kilometers from Port Olry. So far no deaths or injuries have been reported.

However, the US Tsunami Warning System has stated that there is a “potential threat” to Vanuatu.

Additionally, the International Tsunami Information Center has forecast that some coasts might encounter potentially hazardous tsunami waves.
