WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has warned Iran against what he described as activity at the fortified Pickaxe Mountain site, saying Washington could launch a major strike if Tehran takes provocative action.
“We notice there’s a little activity at Pickaxe. I would advise Iran not to get cute because we will have to hit them very hard,” Trump said on Wednesday while speaking at a Republican midterm convention in Dallas.

Pickaxe Mountain is located near Iran’s heavily damaged Natanz uranium enrichment facility and houses two deeply buried tunnel complexes. Trump has threatened to strike the site since at least mid-July, amid the broader US-Israeli war against Iran.

The conflict, which began in February, has raised oil and gas prices, creating an increasingly important political issue for Trump and his Republican Party ahead of the US midterm elections in November.
Trump’s latest warning came as Washington continues to monitor Iran’s nuclear-related sites and activities following extensive damage to the country’s nuclear infrastructure.
