WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have agreed on a framework for a ceasefire in Gaza within the next two weeks, according to Israeli media.
According to Israeli media reports the war in Gaza may end within the next two weeks under the new agreement following a telephone between Trump and Netanyahu.
The reported agreement is said to involve the removal of Hamas from the Gaza Strip and the establishment of joint administrative control by the United Arab Emirates and Egypt.
It allegedly also includes provisions for the release of all Israeli hostages currently held in Gaza.
In addition, discussions are reportedly underway regarding the voluntary resettlement of Palestinians wishing to leave Gaza, with potential relocation to third countries.
While there has been no official confirmation from either Washington or Tel Aviv, the alleged deal represents a significant geopolitical shift in the region’s complex dynamics, with Arab states such as the UAE and Egypt playing a central role in post-conflict governance.
Observers have cautioned, however, that any such agreement is likely to face considerable challenges on the ground, particularly in securing local Palestinian consensus and managing regional responses.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday that the ceasefire between Iran and Israel was holding, shortly after he slammed both states, accusing them of breaching the truce and using expletives in his remarks.
In a fast-moving series of declarations, President Trump, who was on his way to attend a NATO summit in The Hague, posted on his Truth Social app that “the Ceasefire is in effect!”
“ISRAEL is not going to attack Iran. All planes will turn around and head home, while doing a friendly ‘Plane Wave’ to Iran. Nobody will be hurt,” Trump wrote.
Minutes earlier, he slammed Iran and also close US ally Israel for violating a ceasefire he had originally announced late Monday.
The two countries have been “fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what the fuck they’re doing, do you understand that?” the president told reporters at the White House.
Iran violated the ceasefire, “but Israel violated it too,” Trump told reporters on the White House’s South Lawn as he departed for the NATO summit.
“So I’m not happy with them. I’m not happy with Iran either. But I’m really unhappy if Israel is going out this morning.”
“I’ve got to get Israel to calm down,” he said. “Israel, as soon as we made the deal, they came out and dropped a load of bombs the likes of which I’ve never seen before.”
Earlier the same morning, he had posted on Truth Social: “ISRAEL. DO NOT DROP THOSE BOMBS” — without it being clear which bombs he was referring to.
