NEW YORK: A New York court temporarily stopped the dissolution of some of ex-President Donald Trump’s most valuable properties on Friday, Western media reported. The development comes as the court considers the former President’s appeal in a scam case initiated by the New York Attorney General.
Relief for Trump
The verdict by the New York Appellate Division puts on hold a September order by Justice Arthur Engoron, who had ruled that former President Trump and his family business had committed scam.
This brief halt does not show how the appeals court will ultimately decide on appeal of Trump, a legal process that may take more than 12 months.
However, the court did not accept Trump’s attempt to postpone a trial that started last week. This case aims to determine the penalties Donald Trump, ten of his firms, and his two adult sons should pay for supposedly inflating Trump’s net worth to take more favorable finance terms and conditions.
In reply to the recent court verdict, Trump’s attorney, Christopher Kise, showed satisfaction, saying that the “court’s attempt to reach entities, issues, and assets beyond the scope of this trial has been suspended.”
