NEW JERSY, USA: Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump launched scathing attacks on Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and trial judge Justice Juan Merchan during a rally in New Jersey.
Trump denounced Bragg’s appearance and portrayed the criminal charges against him as politically motivated persecution orchestrated by President Joe Biden. He accused both Bragg and Merchan of being puppets of the Biden administration without evidence.
The rally took place in Wildwood, New Jersey, a conservative enclave in a predominantly Democratic state. Despite expressing ambitions to win New Jersey, Trump’s chances are slim, given Biden’s 16-point victory margin in the state in 2020.
However, Trump focused on neighboring Pennsylvania, a key swing state, during his speech. He hinted at potential economic policies, including imposing a 200% tariff on certain imported cars and halting offshore wind projects in New Jersey.
Trump also promised a new tax cut but provided scant details. North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, once a rival in the Republican primary, warmed up the crowd and is rumored to be a leading contender for Trump’s vice-presidential pick.
