ISLAMABAD: US President Donald Trump has confirmed that he has agreed to hold a meeting regarding Greenland on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, this week.

Trump announced the development on January 20, 2026, via his TruthSocial platform, saying he had a “very good telephone call with Mark Rutte, the Secretary General of NATO, concerning Greenland.”

“I agreed to a meeting of the various parties in Davos, Switzerland,” Trump posted, indicating that the discussions would involve multiple stakeholders and address strategic, economic, and diplomatic aspects of Greenland.

The announcement comes amid heightened global interest in Greenland, given its natural resources and strategic location in the Arctic. While the exact participants and timing of the meeting have not been disclosed, it is expected to be informal and held on the sidelines of the WEF annual gathering, running from January 20 to 22.

Analysts say the Greenland engagement underscores the US administration’s efforts to strengthen its Arctic presence and coordinate with international partners on regional matters.

The World Economic Forum annual meeting brings together political leaders, business executives, heads of international organisations, and civil society representatives to discuss pressing global challenges, including geopolitical, economic, and environmental issues.
