ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is gearing up to host a cricket tri-series for the first time in two decades, announced the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) following a meeting between Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and counterparts from South Africa and New Zealand.

In a statement issued by the national cricket governing body, it was revealed that the discussion between Naqvi, Cricket South Africa (CSA) Chairman Lawson Naidoo, and New Zealand Cricket (NZC) Chairman Roger Twose discussed the ODI tri-series.

The tri-series is scheduled to take place in February 2025 in Pakistan, just before the ICC Champions Trophy.

The decision to hold the tri-series was unanimously agreed upon and received positive feedback from all sides involved, read the statement.

Naqvi also invited Twose and Naidoo to visit Pakistan, expressing enthusiasm about the upcoming tri-series and highlighting its significance after a prolonged absence of such tournaments in Pakistan.

“The Tri-series featuring Pakistan, South Africa, and New Zealand promises to be a thrilling event, marking a significant return of such competitions to Pakistan. I extend my gratitude to the heads of NZC and CSA for their cooperation,” stated Naqvi.

He further mentioned the PCB’s eagerness for hosting the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, considering it a prestigious opportunity for Pakistan to welcome the top eight ODI teams to its venues.

The last time PCB organized a tri-series was in October 2004, with Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe participating as visiting teams.
