Amid the intense debate over the Transgender Persons Act 2018 in the country, the community gets good news as the federal capital police announced various positions for transgenders.
According to an advertisement made public by the Federal Capital Police department, transgender people will also work as federal police officials. Applications have been invited to fill 1668 vacancies and transgender people can also apply based on gender, listed on their National Identity Card (CNIC).
Holders of a matriculation certificate must pass all tests to become police officers.
It is to be noted that the Transgender Persons Act 2018, that the government claimed will ensure fundamental rights to Pakistan’s transgender citizens has stirred up a controversy in the country. Religious and conservative groups argue that if passed the law will legalize same-sex marriages and homosexuality in the country.
The controversy has cast a shadow over transgenders community’s hopes to get their due rights and place in the society.
