CAIRO, Egypt: A tragic incident occurred off the coast of Libya when a boat carrying 13 Egyptian migrants capsized, resulting in the deaths of 12 individuals.

According to AFP, local authorities, along with Al-Abreen, a humanitarian group that assists migrants, reported that the boat sank approximately 60 kilometers (37 miles) east of Tobruk on Monday evening. Remarkably, one migrant managed to survive the accident and was rescued.

The bodies of the victims were recovered and brought to shore, as confirmed by the Directorate for Combating Illegal Migration in Tobruk.

This heartbreaking event underscores the ongoing crisis of migration in North Africa, where Libya has increasingly become a primary transit point for individuals fleeing war, poverty, and instability in various parts of Africa and the Middle East.

The dangerous journey across the Mediterranean remains fraught with peril, as migrants risk their lives in search of safety and a better future.
