NEW YORK: Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has said that tragedies like Gaza would not permit sustainable development.
Addressing the UN’s Summit of the Future in New York, the Minister called for ensuring international economic equity by enhancing the representation of developing nations in international financial institutions, reviewing the sovereign debt architecture to make it more reasonable and adopting an equitable global tax regime.
He stated that reforming the World Trade Organization (WTO) will serve as a vehicle for export development and expansion, through preferential treatment for developing nations and avoidance of new environmental protectionism.
The Minister further said that the adoption of the U.N’s Pact for the Future is an expression of the world’s collective determination to reply to international challenges, and called for upholding the promises made in the game-changing document.
