HANOI, Vietnam: The traditional Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival celebration commenced in Hanoi, Vietnam, with an evening dedicated to classic Chinese art.

The event was attended by representatives from the Vietnamese government, the Vietnam-China Friendship Association, teachers and students from local universities, and the overseas Chinese community.

Artists from the Guangxi Theater in South China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region presented captivating performances of popular Chinese traditional music pieces and excerpts from Chinese traditional opera, earning enthusiastic applause.

One attendee, Nguyen Thi Hang, a 20-year-old student majoring in Chinese at Hanoi University, expressed her long-standing admiration for Chinese culture. She found the art evening particularly delightful, singling out the Peking Opera’s portrayal of the Monkey King as fascinating. She eagerly anticipated more such artistic events in Vietnam’s future.

Peng Shituan, the cultural counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam, highlighted how the Guangxi Theater had brought the essence of Chinese traditional art to Vietnam, creating a cultural and artistic spectacle centered around the Mid-Autumn Festival. This spectacle combined various performance art forms, including the Peking Opera.

He emphasized that the Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, is celebrated in Vietnam, and the art evening showcased shared cultural values that strengthen the bonds between the people of both countries.

The Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam jointly hosted the art evening. It was co-organized by the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, with the support of the Chinese Culture Center in Hanoi, the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangxi, and the Guangxi Theater. —Xinhua/APP
