PESHAWAR: Saudi Arabia, home to Islam’s holiest shrines, and other Muslim countries celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr on Friday, marking the end of the blessed month of Ramadan.
However, keeping up its tradition, a few areas in district Khyber in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) also celebrated Eid with Saudi Arabia today despite the central and provincial Ruet-e-Halal committees had announced that Eid-ul-Fitr in Pakistan would fall on Saturday (tomorrow). District Khyber continued the tradition of celebrating 2 Eids in the country.
Though Eid ul Fitr will be celebrated across the country on Saturday (tomorrow), Eid prayers were offered in several mosques in the district of Khyber today.
People hugged and wished Eid to each other after offering Eid prayers in the morning.
Eid celebrations
Several countries, including Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Oman, Yemen, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Afghanistan, Turkey, America, Canada, Sudan, and European countries, including the United Kingdom (UK) have announced Eid-ul-Fitr today.
However, Muslims in Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines, Japan, Malaysia, Jordan, India, Bangladesh, Australia, and many other nations will celebrate Eid on Saturday (tomorrow).
In Saudi Arabia and other Gulf nations, Eid is being celebrated with traditional fervor.
Large Eid prayer gatherings were observed in he holiest Muslim sites tMasjid-ul-Haram and Masjid-e-Nabvi, in which millions of worshippers participated.
After offering Eid payers, the worshippers prayed for the peace and well-being of the Muslim Ummah.
The timing of Eid is determined by the sighting of the Shawal moon, in accordance with the Islamic lunar calendar. The Eid holiday is normally celebrated with family gatherings.
In Lebanon, Sunni religious leaders said the festivity would start on Friday, while some Shiite leaders determined Saturday for the religious festival.
Libya, ruled by 2 rival administrations, marking Eid on Friday in the country’s east and on Saturday (tomorrow) in areas under the control of the Tripoli-based administration.
Statements from Iran’s supreme leader and ruler Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Iraq’s highest Shiite official, Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani, said Eid ul Fitr would start on Saturday in their nations.
In Oman, too, the festival will start on Saturday.
