KARACHI: Korangi Association of Trade and Industry President Sheikh Umer Rehan has raised the alarm bell over a looming shortage of essential commodities including ghee and cooking oil if banks did not open letters of credit for the import of necessities.
Cooking oil crisis
Sheikh Rehan said that Pakistan could face a ghee and oil crisis in 20 to 30 days if banks failed to process the documentation of products offloaded at the port.
He said that the situation was on a dangerous path but the authorities concerned were not taking the issue seriously.
He appealed to the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the finance minister to intervene and act quickly to avert the looming disaster.
