ANKARA: After Sunday’s friendly match against Chile, Marek Hamsik of Trabzonspor announced his retirement from the Slovakia National Football Team.
The experienced midfielder’s final match for his country was a scoreless draw with Chile.
Hamsik thanked everyone who had journeyed with him on his 15-year national trip, writing on his official Instagram account, “It is always a wonderful pleasure and joy to serve my country.”
With 136 appearances, the 35-year-old has the most caps and is Slovakia’s all-time leading scorer with 26 goals.
