ISLAMABAD: The trial of corrupt practices in the Tosha Khana case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan started here on Tuesday in the court of Additional Sessions Judge Islamabad.


The trial court has received the reference of the criminal proceedings against Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan in the Tosha Khana case. In Tuesday’s trial, District Election Commissioner Waqas Malik and his lawyer appeared before the court on behalf of the Election Commission.


In the statement recorded by District Election Commissioner Waqas Malik, it was said that action was ordered against Imran Khan under the Election Act. According to the District Election Commissioner, the Election Commission is an independent body that functions under the Constitution.


The Election Commission ensures the prevention of corrupt practices. Senators and MNAs submit their returns to the Election Commission annually. Imran Khan submitted his returns from 2018 to 2021 to the commission. On which the Additional Judge questioned whether the District Election Commissioner not recording the statement under any pressure? The lawyer of the Election Commission replied “no”. My client is willingly recording his statement.


The District Election Commissioner also said that the Chairman Senate and Speaker National Assembly can send a reference of disqualification against any member. The Speaker sent a reference for Imran Khan’s disqualification on August 2. The Election Commission received the details of Tosha Khana’s gifts through the Cabinet Secretariat.
