Top US Bipartisan Congressional Delegation Due in Pakistan on 10th April

ISLAMABAD: A four-member US congressional bipartisan delegation led by Tom Suozzi (democrat) will be visiting Pakistan from the 10th to the 16th of April aimed at discussing and improving ties with Pakistan and to review bilateral cooperation in different fields between the two countries.

The delegation also includes influential  Republican Congressman Lt. General (R) Jack Bergman of Michigan(who is also the Co-Chair of Pakistan Congressional Caucus).

The delegation is expected to meet Pakistan’s top political and military leadership during its weeklong stay in Pakistan.

The US congressional delegation is expected to meet Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister, Senator Ishaq Dar, and the political leadership of different political parties, and military leadership.

The delegation will visit Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Muzaffarabad where they will meet political leadership and would get briefing on the latest situation in Indian-occupied Kashmir, including the security situation at the line of control.

Investment opportunities

The delegation would also be visiting  Lahore, where they are expected to meet Pakistan Muslim League (N) president Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

During the meetings in Lahore, matters of mutual interest and investment opportunities in the province will be discussed.

The US congressional delegation would also visit Sikh holy place Kartarpur corridor, where they would visit the shrine of Baba Guru Nanak.

New York based Pakistani American politician, and coordinator of the visit Mr Imran Igra in a statement said the purpose of this congressional delegation is to review and improve bilateral relations between Pakistan and the United States.

Mr Igra said the other matters including economy, trade, and defence cooperation , and education were on the agenda of the talks during the visit.

He said that it would be the 4th visit Congressman Tom Suozzi who is also co-chair of Pakistan caucus, to Pakistan, however, the other 3 members of the delegation would be visiting Pakistan for the first time.

Mr Igra brushed aside the rumours that this delegation is going to discuss the release of founder PTI Chairman Imran Khan and made it clear that the issue of the release of Imran Khan is not on the agenda of talks.
