ANKARA: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, has held constructive talks in Oslo along with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League Contact Group with an aim to end Israeli violence in Gaza.
According to Turkish media reports on Friday the meeting was also attended by Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store, Undersecretary of the Finnish Foreign Ministry, Jukka Salovaara, the foreign ministers of Belgium, Denmark, Iceland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Sweden and Norway.
The meeting stressed for an immediate and perennate ceasefire in Gaza and the protection of civilians. They also called for unhindered entry of urgent humanitarian aid into the besieged Gaza Strip.
In the past four weeks, the Contact Group has held meetings in Beijing, Barcelona, Geneva, London, Moscow, New York, Ottawa, Paris and Washington.
According to Gaza health ministry 18,800 innocent Palestinians have been killed in the Gaza war so far.
The Israeli raids have almost destroyed entire neighborhoods in northern Gaza. Israeli ground troops have been facing heavy resistance from Hamas fighters in the area.
According to the UN some 1.87 million Palestinians, over 80 percent of Gaza’s population, have left their homes.
The war was paused for seven days as a result of a Qatar- US brokered deal during which Hamas released 105 captives, including 80 in exchange for 240 Palestinian prisoners.
