BEIJING: Chinese companies operating in Pakistan eye better opportunities for the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) after the recent visit of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to China.
Top leading Chinese power and engineering companies such as CMEC and POWERCHINA Pakistan aimed to enhance their investment and implement new projects across various sectors in the country.
Dai Bao, Vice General Manager of China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) Pakistan, talking to the Chinese media has expressed interest in cooperating with the Pakistani government during the implementation of the second phase of the CPEC.
The first phase of the CPEC laid a robust foundation for Pakistan’s national destiny and established an important framework to boost bilateral cooperation. This progress paves the way for the next phase which both sides eagerly anticipate. The Prime Minister’s visit to China laid the foundation for the beginning of this transformative stage.
The senior representative of the company highlighted that China and Pakistan aspire to witness fresh achievements and embrace a renewed outlook of the joint corridor. China with its vast experience has always extended a friendly hand of support to Pakistan. The CMEC became the first Chinese state-owned entity to operate in Pakistan since 1981.
China, Pakistan to reap CPEC Benefits
Dai Bao was confident that both countries would reap benefits from this new chapter. He added the CMEC has diligently prepared for this moment over the past five years, making comprehensive plans encompassing industrialization, trade, agricultural modernization, education, poverty alleviation, healthcare, and more. He said CMEC is committed to contributing significantly to this milestone project.
Ding Yanzhang, Chairman POWERCHINA, during his recent meeting with PM Shehbaz Sharif assured that his company is ready to participate in hydro-power, new energy, and other areas in Pakistan, promoting green development and the optimization of local energy structure.
The Power Construction Corporation of China would seek more investment, engineering, and construction opportunities in cooperation with relevant global partners, taking full advantage of the rich solar, water, wind, and mine resources in Pakistan.
Earlier, it had carried out several major projects, such as the Port Qasim 2—660 MW Coal-fired Power Plant, Haveli Bahadur Shah 1,230 MW Combined Cycle Coal-fired Power Project, Dawood Wind Power Project, Tarbela 4th Extension Hydropower Station (Civil Works).
Currently, the company is constructing several projects, including some solar and wind power projects in Sindh, like the mega project Diamer Basha Dam and the Tarbela 5th Extension Hydropower Project (Civil Works).
