ISLAMABAD/LOS ANGELESE: Hollywood star Tom Cruise had a field day on February 13. First, he stopped an Oscar nominees’ luncheon, where the “Top Gun: Maverick” star and producer ” got hero’s welcome with five-minute applause and was swarmed by everyone” while making his first stop on the awards season circuit.
Top Gun’s popularity0 was lauded by Steven Spielberg, who exclaimed, “You rescued Hollywood’s ass, and you might have saved theatrical distribution.”
During the pandemic, Cruise took a tough stance by insisting that Paramount hold Top Gun: Maverick for a theatrical release rather than a streaming premiere, bucking the famous (and contentious) trend at the time. Cruise, who appeared humbled by the comments from his collaborator on movies like Minority Report and War of the Worlds, seemed to take offense to the remarks.
Following the nominee’s luncheon, Cruise drove to Century City to meet with his CAA representatives, including Kevin Huvane, Joel Lubin, and Maha Dakhil. The latter shared a photo of the meeting with the caption, “Office visit from the man who brought us back to the theatres,” on Instagram.
During a greeting that included five minutes of applause, the CAA staff members shocked Cruise by leaving their offices and swarming in the lobby and along each floor’s stairwell.
According to Puck, Dakhil sent an email to the entire team on Monday at 2:33 p.m. asking them to leave their offices and wave to Tom Cruise from the stairwell.
