NEW YORK: Humanitarian pauses will not be effective in the situation in the Middle East amid the Israel-Hamas conflict and the time of half measures has passed, Russia’s UN Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia said on Tuesday.

He emphasized that the time for partial measures has passed, and instead, it is crucial for the global community to focus on stopping the violence, reducing harm to civilians, and transitioning toward a political and diplomatic resolution.

“The time of partial measures has passed, and no humanitarian pauses will help. It is impossible to provide humanitarian aid in the midst of combat on the ground,” Nebenzia said as reported by the state news agency.

He further added: “The priority tasks of the international community are to stop the bloodshed, reduce the damage to civilians and shift the situation to the political and diplomatic track.”

Nebenzia stressed the importance of “consolidating collective steps aimed at relaunching a comprehensive negotiation process between Israel and Palestine.”

The UN ambassador stated that in the current situation, Russia is making intensive efforts to de-escalate the situation on the ground, with the primary goal of settling the crisis as soon as possible… It is necessary to immediately cease fire and establishing humanitarian corridors for urgent aid to everyone who needs it.
