ISLAMABAD:  Three trucks carrying vital medicines and medical supplies are likely to enter the Gaza Strip on Sunday, the Health Ministry in Gaza said, as hospitals in the enclave struggle to cope with overwhelming casualties and dwindling resources due to Israel’s relentless bombing since October 2023.

According to Turkish media, the trucks, coordinated through the World Health Organization (WHO), contain “no food items but include urgently needed materials to continue life-saving care for the wounded and sick across Gaza’s battered healthcare system.

Authorities urged all concerned parties to “ensure the convoy’s protection and enable its safe and uninterrupted arrival to hospitals.”

Extreme shortages

Turkish media reported that the health sector in Gaza is on the verge of total collapse, with hospitals overwhelmed and operating under extreme shortages due to Israel’s months-long blockade and bombardment.

According to the WHO, of the 36 hospitals in Gaza, only 18 are partially functioning, and more than 10,000 people in the enclave need medical evacuation.

Al Jazeera reported that Israel’s war on Gaza has killed at least 58,765 people and wounded 140,485.

Earlier on July 15, the UN human rights office, OHCHR, said that a total of 875 desperate and hungry Gazans have been killed in recent weeks trying to fetch food, with most deaths linked to private aid hubs run by the so-called Gaza Humanitarian Foundation.
