TUNIS: Tunisian security forces on Wednesday killed three terrorists during an ongoing operation in a mountainous region of the country near the Algerian border, said the interior ministry.
The ministry without giving further details about those killed said National guard and army forces conducted the counterterrorism operation near the city of Kasserine.
It further said that during the operation explosives, weapons and munitions were also seized.
Tunisia has faced a rise in extremist groups after the 2011 revolution that ended the dictatorship of Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.
Dozens of soldiers, police officers, civilians and foreign tourists have been killed during terrorist attacks in recent years.
Tunisian authorities have conducted regular raids in the Kasserine area, where extremist groups are believed to be hiding.
