LAHORE: As the Imran-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is witnessing a continuing exodus following May 9 events, three potential names have been proposed for a possible political party to be headed by political maverick Jahangir Khan Tareen.

Sources privy to the development said “Awam Dost Party” “Pakistan Democratic Party” and “Pakistan Insaf Party” are the names being considered to give identity to the new party.

Meanwhile, Tareen has formed a committee comprising Ishaq Khaqwani, Aoun Chaudhry and his legal advisors to finalise the name for his yet-to-born party. Jahangir Tareen, who has been active in the formation of his new party following the events of May 9, has also held meetings with the former senior minister of Punjab, Abdul Aleem Khan, and other political heavyweights to chalk out future line of action.

Seasoned politician Jahangir Khan Tareen — once Imran Khan’s closest aide — is likely to announce his new political party, mostly comprising the former ruling party PTI’s defectors, next week. Sources privy to the development said that Tareen has intensified consultations with his close aides to finalize the name of the party.

Tareen has also tasked his legal team to complete necessary steps for the registration of the party with the Election Commission of Pakistan. On Saturday, former AJK prime minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas also announced his support for senior politician Jehangir Tareen, saying that he will move forward along with the latter.
