BANGKOK: Three people were killed and four others sustained injuries during a sudden shooting spree at one of Bangkok’s bustling shopping hubs, Siam Paragon Mall here on Tuesday.

The unidentified assailant opened fire within the crowded mall premises, causing a wave of panic among shoppers, both locals and tourists alike. Terrifying scenes of people fleeing the area were captured in multiple videos circulating on social media.

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin addressed the media, confirming the arrest of the shooter and assuring the public that the situation was under control. “Police are clearing the scene. The situation is easing,” stated Prime Minister Srettha, providing a glimmer of reassurance amid the chaos.

Emergency After Mall Attack in Bangkok

Yuthana Srettanan, director of the Erawan Emergency Center, revealed that three individuals had tragically lost their lives in the incident, while four others were wounded. Emergency services, including numerous police vehicles and ambulances, swiftly descended upon the scene to attend to the injured and secure the area.

Eyewitnesses reported a heavy police presence around the mall’s main entrances, with officers working diligently to escort people to safety. Meanwhile, a gridlocked road outside the mall became a surreal backdrop as bystanders and onlookers tried to comprehend the gravity of the situation.

This horrifying event occurred just days before the one-year anniversary of a deeply tragic incident in Thai history. Nearly a year ago, an ex-police officer had unleashed a knife and gun attack on a nursery, resulting in the devastating loss of 24 children and 12 adults. Thailand also remembers a similar act of violence in 2020 when a former army officer went on a rampage in a Korat shopping mall, claiming 29 lives and leaving scores of others wounded.
