RAWALPINDI: Three “Indian-sponsored” terrorists were killed, while a Pakistan Army officer embraced martyrdom during Pakistan’s security forces operation against “Indian proxy, Fitna al-Hindustan” terrorist group in Awaran district of the country’s southwestern Balochistan province on Wednesday, the military’s media wing said.
According to the military media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Pakistan’s security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation in Awaran district, on the reported presence of terrorists belonging to “Indian Proxy, Fitna al Hindustan.”
During the conduct of the operation, security forces effectively engaged the terrorist location and resultantly, three “Indian sponsored terrorists” were killed, ISPR said.
However, during the intense fire exchange, Major Syed Rabnawaz Tariq, 34, a resident of Muzafarabad, “a brave officer who was leading his troops from the front, fought gallantly and paid the ultimate sacrifice,” ISPR said.
In response, a sanitisation operation was launched to eliminate any other terrorists found in the area.
“The security forces of Pakistan are determined to wipe out the menace of Indian-sponsored terrorism from the country, and such sacrifices of our brave men further strengthen our resolve,” ISPR resolved.
President, PM praise security forces
Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended the security forces for a successful operation against “Fitna-al-Hindustan” in the Awaran district of Balochistan.
The president and the prime minister praised the professionalism of the security forces for sending three terrorists of ‘Fitna-al-Hindustan’ to hell during the operation, the President Secretariat and PM Office Media Wings said in separate press releases.
The president and the prime minister also paid tribute to Major Syed Rab Nawaz Tariq, who embraced martyrdom while fighting bravely against terrorists.
The president and the prime minister prayed for the elevation of the martyr’s ranks and the grant of patience and fortitude for the bereaved family.
Indian proxies
Last week, nine passengers were killed by Indian-backed terrorists in the Sur-Dakai area near the border of Balochistan’s Zhob and Loralai districts, Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind said.
According to officials, the Indian-backed terrorists intercepted two Punjab-bound coaches, checked passengers’ identity cards, and selectively killed those belonging to Punjab province.
The Balochistan Liberation Front, a banned separatist outfit, later claimed responsibility.
Government officials have linked these incidents to a coordinated campaign by “Fitna-Al-Hindustan,” accusing Indian-backed groups of conducting attacks in various parts of Balochistan, including Kakat, Mastung, and Sur-Dakai.
Pakistan has witnessed a surge in terrorist attacks in May 2025, even as heightened military tensions with neighbouring India failed to trigger a significant escalation in violence from extremist groups.
Data released by the Islamabad-based Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) indicates a 5 percent increase in attacks compared to April, though the overall picture suggests militant groups largely remained contained despite the regional geopolitical climate.
