Thousands Gather at North American Resort to Witness Solar Eclipse

MAZATLAN, Mexico: Thousands of people have gathered at Mexican beachside resort town of Mazatlan, the first major viewing spot for solar eclipse in North America.

Millions of people across North America are excited to witness total solar eclipse on Monday – some gazing anxiously at wayward clouds.

The complete eclipse will be viewable along a path starting in western Mexico through the United States and into Canada, and will last for more than four minutes at in some areas.

The Mexican beachside resort town of Mazatlan is the first major viewing spot in North America.  Thousands of people are gathered at the resort, sitting up on deck chairs with eclipse glasses.

Eclipse fans are assembling in different places along the path of totality.

In New York, the full eclipse will occur after 3 p.m. (1900 GMT).  The eclipse will be seen in the north American cities of Austin, San Antonio, and Dallas, Indianapolis, Cleveland, Erie, Niagara Falls, and Montreal.

A partial eclipse will also be visible outside the path of totality.

About 32 million people in the United States reside within in the path of totality, with officials predicting another 5 million people will travel to the area to witness the solar activity.

Experts have advised the use of protective solar glasses to witness the solar eclipse to prevent eye damage from directly looking at the sun.
