KARACHI: In a shocking incident, thieves stole parts of the CT scan machine and other equipment from Sindh government hospital in Liaquatabad, Karachi. Wiring, circuit components, UPS, batteries, and other vital parts from the Advance Trauma Centre were stolen by thieves. Following the incident, patients requiring CT scans are being redirected to alternate medical facilities for their diagnostic needs.
This incident comes in the wake of another significant theft at Civil Hospital Karachi, where cancer medications valued at Rs. 360 million were reportedly stolen. The Medical Superintendent of the hospital told the Police that two hospital employees, Niaz Ahmed Khaskheli and Iqbal Ahmed Channa were allegedly involved in the theft. He said that the accused have sold 76,000 tablets of cancer treatment drugs between February and September last year.
Despite the registration of a case and police conducting raids, the suspects remain at large, underscoring the challenges faced in combating such criminal activities within healthcare institutions. The incidents have raised serious concerns about the security and management of medical resources in public hospitals, prompting calls for stricter oversight and accountability measures.
