SHIGAR, SKARDU: The Shigar Fort, also known as The Fort on Rock, is an old Pakistani and Balti fort in Shigar, Skardu.
The Raja of the Amacha Dynasty of Shigar constructed the fort in the 17th century. Aga Khan Cultural Service Pakistan (AKCSP-P) has repaired the Fort. After the renovation, Serena Hotels turned the Fort into a museum and a five-star hotel.
The fort’s Baradari pavilion
It is a three-storey cribbage-wood building. Despite having the appearance of being a single construction, the fort consists of three independent buildings. These buildings were constructed next to one another over several years. All these buildings display unique engineering and construction skills.
Traditional royal cuisine was cooked and served in the Shahi Kitchen. Royals passed down this kitchen from one generation to the next.
In the Shigar Fort, a 400-year-old tree has a hollow trunk that catches fire few years.
