SHANGHAI: A new mega factory project of US carmaker Tesla Inc. has been granted a construction permit, the management committee of Lingang new area of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone said on Monday.
As the first energy storage mega factory project of Tesla outside the US market, it is located in the Lingang new area and is likely to go into mass production in the first quarter of 2025.
Capacity of Tesla’s project
The factory will initially produce 10,000 Megapack units annually, equal to about 40 GWh of energy storage.
Tesla said that the Megapack is a powerful battery that provides energy storage and support, assisting in preventing outages and stabilising the grid.
In January 2019, the company broke ground on its Shanghai Gigafactory.
