NEVEDA: Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) Chief Executive Elon Musk has introduced environment-friendly heavy duty electric trucks that are likely to outperform existing diesel model vehicles.

Musk, who is also the chief executive officer of Twitter, delivered around 100 heavy-duty electric trucks to PepsiCo at Nevada.

PepsiCo, which completed its first cargo run with electric trucks, ordered 100 trucks in 2017.

During the launch, Musk or none of the company’s officials specify the price and cost of production cost of the Semi trucks.

Musk, who appeared on stage during the launch at the company’s Nevada plant, said that the cargo-hauling trucks were battery-powered and they would help reduce highway emissions, outperforming existing diesel models.

During the launch, Musk said that if you are a trucker and you wanted the most badass rig on the road, that was it.

Five years ago, the vehicle-making company announced it was developing the all-electric truck but experts remained skeptical that battery-powered electric trucks could take the strain of carrying hefty loads for hundreds of miles economically.

Tesla, however, did not announce pricing for the Semi trucks it delivered to PepsiCo. The giant technology company also did not say when it will roll out trucks for customers.

Tesla also said it would start using the Semi to ship parts to its plant in Fremont, California.

In 2017, Tesla had said the 300-mile range version of the Semi truck would probably cost $150,000, and the 500-mile version $180,000. However, Tesla’s passenger electric vehicle prices have increased sharply since then.
