Terrorist Attack on Police Leaves One Dead, Two Injured in Bannu

PESHAWAR: A policeman was martyred, and two others were injured when unidentified armed men attacked a police party in the Bannu district of northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Tuesday.

According to police officials, the police patrolling party came under attack in the Teri Ram area of the Bannu district in the province. As a result of the firing, a policeman was martyred, while two others received injuries.

Police promptly retaliated to the attack and shot and injured one attacker. Soon after the attack, additional personnel from Bannu Police and an Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) were dispatched to apprehend the assailants.

In a separate incident on Monday morning, a bomb blast hit a police van providing security to polio workers in Mamund tehsil of Bajaur district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, leaving at least five policemen martyred and injuring 20 others.

Initial reports indicate that the blast resulted in the complete destruction of the police van assigned to secure the polio vaccination team. The injured cops were promptly transported to the hospital by rescue officials.

It is noteworthy that a nationwide week-long anti-polio campaign commenced on Monday.
