NEW DELHI: The Indian state of Manipur remains tense as the Indian army conducted a flag march in the Imphal valley while Hindu women in various districts of the state took to the streets to protest against the Christian community.

In several districts including Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, and Kakching, Meitei women formed human chains and marched with fire torches to voice their demands. The protesters called for the implementation of the controversial National Register of Citizens (NRC), adding to the ongoing unrest in the region.

The imposition of a curfew in Manipur was the result of clashes that erupted between the Kuki and Meitei communities on May 3. The violence has tragically resulted in the loss of over 100 lives and the displacement of thousands.

Volatile Situation in Manipur

The situation remains volatile, prompting the Indian army to conduct a flag march in the Imphal valley as a precautionary measure. The authorities are working towards restoring peace and stability in the region, while also addressing the grievances and concerns of the different communities involved.

Efforts are being made to engage in dialogue and find a peaceful resolution to the tensions between the Hindu and Christian communities in Manipur. It is crucial for all parties to promote harmony, understanding, and respect for each other’s religious and cultural diversity to ensure a peaceful coexistence within the state.
